Cadillac 2021 Blanco CT5.V<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

2021 Cadillac Outgoing Cadillac CTS-V enthusiasts note that the CT5-V Blackwing <\/span><\/span>is the rightful heir to this performance powerhouse,<\/span><\/span><\/a> even though it has a different name. <\/span>The new car will be powered by the same supercharged V8 engine, but its updated design and <\/span><\/span>new interior are what Cadillac has pinned its hopes on high performance<\/span><\/span><\/a> . <\/span>Blackwing will take on competitors such as the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, the BMW M3 and the Mercedes-AMG C63. <\/span>To truly win over the world-beating sports sedans, the CT5-V Blackwing must provide more than just horsepower;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

You will need to deliver great ride and handling to accompany its brutal acceleration. <\/span>Based on how well the CTS-V proved to be in our comparison test, we’re looking forward to seeing what the CT5-V Blackwing can offer.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Cadillac 2021<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\r\n

The 2021 CT5-V Blackwing <\/span><\/span>is Cadillac’s lineup of high-performance sedan<\/span><\/span><\/a> , expected to be revealed in spring 2021. Don’t confuse yourself with the new naming scheme:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The Cadillac CT5-Vis is now just a sportier trim than the standard CT5; <\/span>The Blackwing is the brand’s all-in-one high-performance version.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

We’re not yet sure how the Cadillac will be outfitted or pricing for the CT5-V Blackwing, nor do we have any details on the available option packages or performance-enhancing features available. <\/span>We expect the car to start around $85,000, but we’ll have to hold back on suggesting any potential options until the earliest car sale date. <\/span>For something smaller – and possibly cheaper – check out the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing, which we review separately.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Although Cadillac calls it the CT5-V Blackwing,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

We don’t expect the newly developed Blackwing V-8 biturbo engine from the CT6-V to be offered under the hood. <\/span>Instead, an updated version of the 650-hp, 6.2-liter V-8 will be paired with a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission. <\/span>(This is the same engine that powers the awesome Chevy Camaro ZL-1.)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

We didn’t get the chance to drive the new CT5-V Blackwing,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

But initial impressions of the standard CT5-V suggest a sharp-handling sedan that should improve further once Cadillac tackles all the performance suspension parts that will undoubtedly be standard on the Blackwing.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

fuel economy\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Fuel economy estimates weren’t released for the CT5-V Blackwing, but the outgoing CTS-V didn’t quite drink gasoline. <\/span>We expect some improvement over the outgoing 14 mpg highway and 21 mpg highway and 16 mpg combined.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

But we’re probably not in store for a fuel-economy miracle when we get the CT5-V Blackwing for testing, we’ll be running our usual 200-mile highway fuel-economy route and update this story with the results.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Interior, comfort and cargo\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The CT5-V Blackwing will share its cabin with the standard CT5, which will give the high-performance sedan a reasonably spacious interior with plenty of features and style. <\/span>We found that the regular CT5 cabin is a mixture of materials<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

\u2014 some good, some really bad \u2014 but hopefully you’ll wear the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing to better match the much higher entry price.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

While the Blackwing Box will likely be the same size and shape as the regular CT5\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

It is possible that Cadillac eliminates the folding rear seat feature to help improve structural rigidity; <\/span>We’ll know more as the car’s sale approaches. <\/span>However, we fit five handbags inside a regular CT5 box and that’s a decent space for shipping.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

It’s unlikely Cadillac would install a<\/span><\/span><\/a> unique infotainment system in the CT5-V Blackwing, which means the car’s standard 10.0-inch touchscreen display, CUE interface, and secondary rotary console in the center console will all travel. <\/span>Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard, as will a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. <\/span>While the standard CT5 comes with a Bose stereo system as an option, we expect it to be standard here.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Safety and driver assistance features<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

CT5-V Blackwing has not been tested<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS);<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The normal CT5 has not yet undergone such a test. <\/span>A range of driver assistance features are expected to be available, either as standard or optional. <\/span>Key security features will likely include:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
