Cadillac XT4 2021<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Cadillac With no shortage of options in the <\/span><\/span>luxury small SUV market, the Cadillac XT4<\/span><\/span><\/a> will appeal to buyers who appreciate the sharp design, spacious interior, and traditional SUV-like driving position. <\/span><\/span>All models come with<\/span><\/span><\/a> a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. <\/span>The cabin has a modern look with plenty of standard and optional technologies and infotainment features.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

But the overall improvements aren’t on the same level as the XT4’s main competitors, which include the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-class. <\/span>If you overlook its sub-market interior materials, the XT4 remains a practical and stylish choice in this popular segment.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Cadillac car\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Cadillac made some minor changes to the XT4 for 2021<\/span><\/span><\/a> , starting with the base luxury model, which receives a new standard power tailgate and an option for leather upholstery.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

An optional Driver Awareness Package that includes automatic high-beam headlights and lane-keeping assist has also been added to the Luxury model. <\/span>The Sport model receives red-painted brake calipers, and the Premium Luxury models each come with new exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals. <\/span>Two new colors join the available color palette: Infrared Tintcoat and Wave Metallic.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The base price for the Cadillac XT4 is $36,790, and all-wheel drive adds $2,500 per model for whoever wants it. <\/span>The Premium Luxury and Sport models both cost about the same, but since the former doesn’t live up to its name, and the latter is better to drive, we recommend the XT4 Sport. <\/span>Featuring unique wheel designs,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Black exterior trim, exclusive interior trim. <\/span>The Sport model also has an exclusive active suspension with adaptive dampers and better bolstered front seats. <\/span>To this, we add the Comfort & Comfort package (leather front seats, ventilation, massage, etc.) and opt for Active Sport Suspension (adaptive dampers) to avoid the 20-inch wheels that reduce ride quality and are desired with the Sport Dynamics package.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Under the hood of all XT4s is <\/span>a 237-horsepower turbocharged <\/span><\/span>four-cylinder engine. <\/span><\/span><\/a>It is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. <\/span>The 2019 XT4 Sport we tested made its way to 60 mph in a dim 7.8 seconds – 1.5 seconds behind the X1. <\/span>Despite the difference,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The XT4 felt lively around town and when merging on the highway. <\/span>Ignore Cadillac’s emphasis on sportiness with the XT4. <\/span>It is more than just a sports car. <\/span>The ride is fine, as long as the road is relatively smooth. <\/span>Rough stretches of asphalt translate a lot of vibration and sharp impacts into the cabin, especially when riding on the optional 20-inch wheels. <\/span>Guidance is similarly disappointing and neither perceptible nor direct in its work. <\/span>The XT4’s only critical controls are the brakes, which lowered our test car from 70 mph in our emergency stop test at 172 feet using one of the most powerful brake pedals we’ve encountered.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Cadillac fuel economy\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Despite its ability to save fuel for cylinder deactivation, the XT4 gets full EPA fuel economy ratings, with front-wheel drive variants reaching 30 mpg on the highway. <\/span>In a real-world highway fuel economy test, our 4WD test vehicle managed an EPA-rated 27 mpg.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Interior, comfort and cargo<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

While the XT4’s cabin is comfortable and spacious, it’s not as high-class as we’d expect in this premium segment. <\/span>The dashboard and upper door panels are covered in stitched faux leather, but lower on the doors and center console is still cheaper plastic and sharp edges. <\/span>Buttons and switches look like they could potentially be shared with less expensive offerings in GM’s portfolio. <\/span>The space is great for front seat passengers and is actually very suitable in the back seat as well.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

As with the passenger compartment, the XT4’s cargo room is spacious. <\/span>Behind the XT4’s back seat, we tuck six of our carry-on bags, and with the seat backs folded flat, we’ve been able to fit 18\u2014a little more than smaller competitors like the Mini Cooper Countryman. <\/span>If you’re looking for a small SUV that can haul cargo like the bigger one, the Volvo XC40 – which has 23 hand luggage – is worth a look.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

All XT4 models come with an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Cadillac CUE software. <\/span>The touchscreen looks nice and clear and is dotted slightly in the dashboard. <\/span>The interface is reasonably easy to use as well, and in addition to touching the screen, the user can also interact via a handle mounted on the console.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, on-board Wi-Fi hotspot and a seven-speaker audio system are standard; <\/span>Navigation is optional, as is the Bose 13-speaker audio system, and the Select Available Technology Package (Premium Luxury and Sport models only) adds a digital gauge cluster, head-up display, and wireless smartphone charging pad.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Safety and driver assistance features<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The XT4 received a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) but the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) did not complete its suite of tests. <\/span>Cadillac offers it a slew of driver assistance features, but a few of them come at a standard price. <\/span>Key safety features include:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
