cadillac 2021 2021 CT5 is Cadillac’s sports sedan, and it plays <\/span><\/span>an important role in any luxury car company’s portfolio<\/span><\/span><\/a> . <\/span>When compared to its competitors – the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-class, and Genesis G70 – the CT5 doesn’t have the sharpest <\/span><\/span>feedback or the sleekest cabin,<\/span><\/span><\/a> but its beautiful design helps it stand out from the crowd. <\/span>The turbocharged four-cylinder engine comes standard,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

But buyers can upgrade to a twin-turbo V6 with up to 360 horsepower. <\/span>The Caddy’s cabin is more spacious than many of its competitors, making it easier to use as a family car. <\/span>All models come with a touchscreen infotainment screen, basic driver assistance technologies and plenty of convenience features.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Like the smaller CT4, the CT5 receives the new 2021 Diamond Sky Metallic Edition package, which offers unique exterior and interior design elements including distinctive wheels. <\/span>A new 12.0-inch digital display is available, and Cadillac will offer a Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving mode as an option on its 2021 CT5s.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Premium Luxury model deserves an extra scratch. <\/span>It adds features like interior ambient lighting, a wireless smartphone charging pad, illuminated exterior door handles, blind spot monitoring, driver seat memory settings, rear parking sensors, and electric lumbar support for the driver and front passenger. <\/span>It also unlocks several options, such as the Driver Awareness Plus package. <\/span>This brings automatic high beams, lane-keeping assist, a head-up display, and more. <\/span>We recommend this, but it should be noted that it also requires the selection of the lighting package, which consists of the front cornering lights and illuminated door sills.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Engine, Transmission, and Performance Cadillac 2021<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The standard engine on the CT5 is a 237-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder<\/span><\/span><\/a> , but you can upgrade to a 3-liter V-6 with 335 horsepower. <\/span>The performance-oriented CT5-V features a 360-horsepower version of the twin-turbo V6 engine plus adaptive dampers and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. <\/span>Work is also underway on a more track-ready model, with a prototype already being tested. <\/span>Both engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic. <\/span>Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional. <\/span>In our tests,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The CT5’s rear-engined turbocharged four-cylinder sprinted to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds. <\/span>The BMW 330i and Alfa Romeo Giulia T, two of the CT5’s main competitors, completed the same test in 5.1 and 4.6 seconds, respectively. <\/span>When it comes to driving and handling, the CT5 is smoother and less sporty than the CTS it replaces. <\/span>Body control is much more neglected, and the improvements to the car’s handling aren’t enough to justify what seems like a step backwards in driving dynamics.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Fuel economy estimates have not been released for the V-6, but the fourth turbo is rated at up to 32 mpg highway, 23 mpg city, and 26 mpg combined. <\/span>Four-wheel drive models operate 31 highways, 21 cities, and 25 combined. <\/span>On the fuel economy test route on the 200-mile highway, the rear-wheel drive Sport model managed 31 mpg.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Interior, comfort and cargo\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Cadillac corrected some of the CTS’s interior flaws with this new sports sedan; <\/span>Namely, CT5 offers a more user-friendly interface and straightforward design. <\/span>Unfortunately, the quality of the cabin materials seems unworthy of the CT5’s status as a luxury car. <\/span>Premium Luxury models are available with nice open-pore wood trim that elevates the interior, but it mixes alongside cheap black plastic that would otherwise have been lifted from the Chevrolet Malibu family sedan. <\/span>The rear seat is more spacious than the CTS, but competitors like the Acura TLX and Volvo S60 feel spacious. <\/span>All three vehicles have similarly sized bins, and each fits five of our hand luggage behind the back seats.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The CT5 features the latest version of the CUE infotainment system, displayed on a 10.0-inch touch screen in the center of the dashboard. <\/span>It’s more logically structured than the old system and replaces some touch-sensitive controls with physical ones. <\/span>You can control the system via a rotating wheel located behind the transmission or by interacting with the touch screen itself. <\/span>Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration come standard. <\/span>Desirable available features include a head-up display, wireless device charging, and an eight-speaker Bose audio system.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n

Safety and driver assistance features<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has released crash test results for the CT5. <\/span>A range of driver assistance technologies are available, including adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. <\/span>GM’s self-driving Super Cruise Level 2 feature \u2014 which can manage vehicle steering, acceleration, and braking without the driver having to keep their hands on the wheel \u2014 will be available sometime after launch. <\/span>Key safety features include:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The CT5’s warranty coverage is more generous than that of German sports sedans, particularly in the powertrain warranty, beating the 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class by two years or 20,000 miles. <\/span>Better warranties are available in the luxury car entry market with the Genesis G70 and Kia Stinger,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Both offer longer limited warranties and powertrain. <\/span>The Genesis comes with three full years of free scheduled maintenance, while the Cadillac includes only the first visit for free.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
