BMW x4<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Sharing quick mechanical parts with the X3 M, the 2021 X4 M adds <\/span><\/span>a more dramatic,<\/span><\/span><\/a> coupe-like roofline for a bit more excitement\u2014which may not appeal to everyone. <\/span>Under the hood is a turbocharged inline-six that produces 473 hp on the standard model or <\/span><\/span>503 hp on the competition upgraded model. <\/span><\/span><\/a>The latter delivered the X4 M from zero to 60 mph in an impressive 3.3 seconds on our test track. <\/span>To go along with the high-powered powertrain, the X4 M delivers sharp control, making it great for cruising on a twisty road;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The trade-off is often an unforgiving ride on any rough patches. <\/span>The cabin is the same as the high-end X3 and X3 M models, except for rear headroom and cargo space, both of which are slightly tweaked due to the fastback roofline. <\/span>Most people should still find the X4 M to be fairly practical, though: The rear seat is roomy enough for two adults, and the cargo area offers space for eight hand luggage in our test.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

BMW x4<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Like many other BMWs, the X4 M gains Android Auto and SiriusXM <\/span><\/span>satellite system as standard features<\/span><\/span><\/a> for 2021. Other than that, the glossy rear SUV remains unchanged.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The highest production engine in the competition model is worth every penny, so it’s the one we’re suggesting here. <\/span>We also boast both the Driving Assistance Plus package, which adds adaptive cruise control and more advanced driver assistance features; <\/span>The Executive Package is also an interesting addition as it includes an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, a head-up display, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a self-parking feature.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Both models come with a six-wheel inline turbocharger, standard all-wheel drive, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. <\/span>The X4 M engine produces 473 horsepower, but the Competition model is dialed up to 503. When we tested the competition on our test track, it delivered blazing acceleration, jumping to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. <\/span>This outperforms the main X4 competitor,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Mercedes-AMG GLC63, which sprinted from zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. <\/span>In fact, the X4 M Competition outperformed even BMW’s popular M3 sports sedan in part because of the extra traction that comes from the standard all-wheel drive system (the M3 runs only on its rear wheels.) Segment M is a more stable ride defined by more impressive cornering grip.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

BMW x4 fuel economy<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

When it comes to high-performance SUVs,<\/span><\/span><\/a> we don’t expect much in terms of fuel efficiency, but the EPA’s (EPA) X4 M’s fuel economy ratings are awful at 14 mpg city and 19 mpg highway. and 16 mpg combined. <\/span>The V-8-powered GLC63 Coupe gets ratings up to 22 mpg on the highway,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio has a 23 mpg highway rating. <\/span>Fortunately, the X4 M Competition performs much better than expected in the real world. <\/span>It surprised us on the road to 200-mile highway fuel economy by delivering 26 mpg; <\/span>The Stelvio Quadrifoglio managed just 21 mpg, and the GLC63 Coupe was just fine for just 20 mpg.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

BMW x4 interior, comfort and cargo cabin<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Upscale and sporty, the X4 M’s cabin is made of high-quality materials, its driver-focused design, and it’s easy to find the right seating position. <\/span>A range of luxury features are standard, including 14-way power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, power tailgate,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. <\/span>The sloping roofline doesn’t intrude into rear-seat passenger space as much as would be expected, and most mid-height passengers will find the rear seat very comfortable. <\/span>Luggage space here is more limited than it was in the X3 M, but we were still able to fit eight hand luggage behind the rear seat and a total of 18 bags with the rear seats folded flat.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Information, entertainment and communication<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

But all X4 M models come with a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with the latest version of BMW’s iDrive interface. <\/span>Navigation is standard and all models also come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. <\/span>An onboard Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless smartphone charging pad are part of the optional Executive Package. <\/span>Instead of analog gauges, the X4 M and X4 M Competition come standard with a 12.3-inch reconfigurable digital gauge cluster. <\/span>Audiophiles will be glad that this Harman\/Kardon 16-speaker stereo is standard, so there’s no need to pay extra for an upgrade.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Safety and driver assistance features BMW x4<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The standard X4 has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the high-performance M variant has not been tested. <\/span>For what it’s worth, the Squareback X3 has received five stars from NHTSA and received a Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS. <\/span>BMW offers the Active Driving Assistant Package, which includes basic driver assistance features, as standard, but the more advanced technology is optional. <\/span>Key safety features include:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
