Mercedes-Maybach GLS Class 2021
Mercedes-Maybach GLS Class 2021
Mercedes-Maybach luxury SUV limousines with six-digit price tags are nothing new , but the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 brings the brand’s luxury touch to the market for a battle with brands like Bentley and Rolls-Royce. The GLS600 is loaded to the gills with fancy features, and its sleek, shiny exterior will leave no doubt as to the level of wealth or luxury of the celebrity inside.
Don’t plan on bringing the whole family with you, as the Maybach version of the GLS offers only two rows of seats instead of three, but plan to bring your own jeweled crown, a diamond-set Patek Philippe wristwatch and a couple of Dom Perignon bottles for cooling in the GLS600 wine fridge.
The Maybach version of the new GLS SUV has been in the works for some time, and will be the first SUV in the ultra-luxury segment when it goes on sale in late 2020, joining the Maybach S-Class at dealerships.
If you’re in the market for a high dollar luxury SUV, you won’t listen to the likes of us when deciding which options to order. Plus, Mercedes-Maybach seems to make most things standard, including a semi-autonomous driving mode, nappa leather upholstery, and cool interior and exterior trim. We’ll learn more about available GLS600 kits and accessories closer to their on-sale date.
Engine, transmission and performance Mercedes-Maybach
The GLS600’s twin-turbocharged V-8 engine produces 558 horsepower and can power the large luxury SUV from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, according to Mercedes-Maybach. The motor is powered by a 48-volt hybrid system that gives a little extra boost from the start. If that’s not fast enough for you, check out the Mercedes-AMG GLS63, which offers a 603-hp version of this powertrain and jumped to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds on our test track. We haven’t driven the GLS600 yet,
But we expect a very smooth ride and an exceptionally quiet cabin. Air suspension is standard, and features a Maybach mode that is said to erase road bumps.
Mercedes-Maybach fuel economy
Fuel economy numbers haven’t been released by the EPA or Mercedes-Maybach, but we’re sure the big spenders who will be shopping the GLS600 against the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan won’t be too concerned with fuel efficiency.
Interior, comfort and cargo
While the regular Benz brand GLS SUV is a three-row, the Maybach GLS600 offers only two rows, both of which offer heating and massage functions. The back seats are the place for you; With acres of legroom and two power-adjustable reclining chairs, a ride in the back is like traveling in the most luxurious of first-class airline cabins. A three-dimensional seat is also offered, but come on, the executive treatment is what this SUV is all about. Nappa leather covers the dashboard, door panels and seats, while real wood trim with a pretty pin stripe adds a touch of sophistication.
The diffuser helps passengers create the sensory oasis they deserve after a hard day of dirty affluence. Luggage capacity will not be as large here as on the regular GLS as the rear seats are fixed and cannot be folded to accommodate larger items. Mercedes-Maybach says there’s still about 19 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and it’ll offer an impressive array of bespoke luggage.
Information, entertainment and contact Mercedes-Maybach
The dual 12.3-inch infotainment screens use the latest Mercedes-Benz MBUX software interface and rear-seat passengers get two 11.6-inch screens that can play movies or control the audio system, and a Burmester audio system will be available featuring an impressive 27 speakers.
Safety and driver assistance features
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have not crash-tested the GLS600 but likely never will. High-cost, low-dollar luxury cars often do not undergo the same tests as the Toyota RAV4. A suite of high-tech driver assistance features will be standard to give your driver a helping hand on long journeys. Key safety features include:
Standard Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
Standard Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist
Standard adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode
