Mercedes-Benz G-Class 2021
Mercedes-Benz G-Class 2021 The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class isn’t just a six-figure SUV driven by the rich and famous, it’s an unmistakable off-road icon that lives up to its great reputation. Sure, the G-class’s hefty price tag means it’s only available to people in a certain tax bracket, but anyone can appreciate the tall, square design that’s been their calling card for decades . While Mercedes has carefully developed the Geländewagen’s exterior appearance during the recent restyling, the company has significantly improved its road behavior with a more advanced independent front suspension system.
Its larger dimensions also make it more spacious than its predecessors
The design and materials inside now fit its luxurious proportions. Of course, no G-wagen would be complete without a sturdy frame, ample ground clearance, and three locking differentials. All four wheels are powered by a 416-hp twin-turbo V-8 that is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Those who want a faster, more refined experience – and of course, more pricier – will appreciate the 577-hp Mercedes-AMG G63 (reviewed separately), but we think the 2021 G-Class is the more classic choice.
The big news for the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is that it’s more customizable than ever. That’s because the company’s G manufaktur program now offers 34 different exterior colors and 54 interior upholstery. Other updates include a new standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and new options, like new 20-inch wheels and an appearance package called Night Package Magno.
Each G class requires a six-figure price, and the number can go up a lot with a wide range of expensive options. We will avoid the most expensive upgrades and improve our version with thoughtful choices. This includes an exclusive interior package that adds nicer nappa leather upholstery and more elegant pieces. The Seat Comfort package includes front massage seats with ventilated cushions, and available adaptive dampers allow for an adjustable ride quality. The only other option we choose is a heated steering wheel.
Engine and transmission Mercedes-Benz movement and performance
Powered by a twin-turbo V8 that produces 416 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque, the G550 is as fast on the street as it is on the track. Those who want a faster G-wagen can opt for the AMG-tuned G63 that makes 577 hp and 627 lb-ft but costs Approximately $25,000 additional to get started. All-wheel drive is standard on the G550, and its engine transmits power through an obedient nine-speed automatic transmission. Featured
The 2019 G550 we tested has improved ways on the road over the outgoing model, thanks to the independent front suspension and lower center of gravity. However, its square, tall body creates a lot of wind noise at higher speeds, and it certainly doesn’t help the SUV feel fast in corners. However, the G550’s steering feels more precise than ever, and the ride quality is comprised of all but choppy surfaces. Mercedes also supplies every G-Class with three-lock differentials and a low-range gear, which means it can handle almost any terrain. This, combined with generous ground clearance and a maximum towing capacity of 7,000 pounds, makes it a useful tool when you’re not on social media.
Mercedes-Benz fuel economy
Those who can own a G550 should have pockets deep enough to cover its tendency to pump gasoline. The Environmental Protection Agency expects each model to gain 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway. We tested one on our 75-mph highway for fuel economy—part of our comprehensive test regimen—and found that it failed to meet government expectations, earning 15 mph in the real world.
Interior, comfort and cargo Mercedes-Benz
With Mercedes-Benz adding to the off-road bits of the G-Class, the interior is all about luxury and offers more room for people and cargo than the previous generation. Standard features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, heated front and rear seats with leather upholstery, a power-adjustable steering column, and three-zone automatic climate control. By checking a few optional boxes, buyers can enjoy massaging front seats with ventilation,
Heated steering wheel, nappa leather upholstery, digital gauge cluster. G manufaktur options offer the most luxurious aesthetic and allow for more than 54 unique interior upholstery, but they cost a ton of money Although there’s no shortage of headroom in the front or rear seats, the experience isn’t as luxurious as other high-end SUVs like the Bentley Bentayga or Rolls Royce Cullinan. Still, the Benz has tons of cargo space. The version we tested had 16 handbags behind the back row and another 17 folded bags (33 total).
Information, entertainment and communication
Each G-wagen features a large 12.3-inch infotainment display that is primarily controlled by a rotary knob and a center console-mounted touchpad. Combined with helpful steering wheel controls and voice commands, the system is easy to operate and less distracting than the touchscreen alternatives. It also comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a 15-speaker, 590-watt Burmester audio system. Those looking for more upgrades can add a Wi-Fi hotspot or rear-seat entertainment system.
Safety and driver assistance features
Class G has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, it does have a slew of standard driver assistance technologies such as blind spot monitoring and self-parking assist. Key safety features include:
But standard forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking
Also standard adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology
Standard Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist
