2021 Jeep Cherokee
2021 Jeep Cherokee
Jeep Cherokee Among Jeep’s many SUV offerings, none blends the brand’s off-road ethos with the high-end road ethos like the Grand Cherokee. To accommodate every lifestyle, Jeep offers a variety of Grand Cherokee models, from the affordable Laredo to the stylish Summit . The standard V-6 should fit the needs of most buyers, but for those who want a little more grunt, Jeep offers a 360-horsepower V-8. Those with adventure on their mind should consider the Trailhawk,
Which comes with a two-speed transfer case, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, hill descent control, reinforced Kevlar tires, and an air suspension that provides additional ground clearance. Inside, the Grand Cherokee offers a comfortable cabin that sleeps four adults on two rows of seats. A touchscreen infotainment system and plenty of connectivity features help the GC feel modern, but Jeep’s driver assistance technology is mostly optional, although many of its competitors offer features like the standard.
Jeep Cherokee
With a new model coming for 2022, this iconic mid-size, two-row off-roader receives only minor changes for 2021. An 80th Anniversary Edition model based on a limited-edition trim comes standard with all available Grand Cherokee drivers – assistance features plus upholstery. Leather interior, Light Tungsten interior trim, 18-inch special wheels, 80th Anniversary badges. The new Laredo X model joins the lineup and offers in-dash navigation, an 8.4-inch infotainment display, remote start, a power tailgate, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. The mid-range Limited trim can now be ordered with the Sun & Audio package consisting of a panoramic sunroof and nine-speaker stereo, and the Limited X gains gloss black exterior trim.
Jeep Grand Cherokee offers every taste and budget . The Limited includes a decent amount of luxury items, such as leather seats (heated at the front), Uconnect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces, and 18-inch wheels. We’ll consider ordering the new Sun and Sound package for a panoramic sunroof and an upgraded Alpine stereo system. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but Jeep owners can choose all-wheel drive for between $2,000 and $3,000 more, depending on model level.
Engine, Transmission and Performance Jeep Cherokee
The Grand Cherokee will come with a V-6 unless you choose a V-8 , which is only available on Limited models and up. The base motor pulls hard and transmits very little vibration into the cabin, so it’s the motor we prefer. It’s a perfect match for the heft of the Grand Cherokee, and it does a great job of stimulating this SUV around town and on the highway. Regardless of the configuration, the Grand Cherokee has strong towing capacity – 6,200 pounds for the V-6 models,
and 7,200 pounds with the V-8 — which raises its utility another notch. There is nothing sporty about this utility vehicle. Rough stretches of grooved sidewalk send shivers through the chassis into the cabin. The optional air suspension appears to address this, as shown on our Trailhawk test vehicle,
Which provided more accurate driving. The guidance is accurate and has a nice brochure. The jeep travels in a straight line, which makes setting off on the highway comfortable. Soft in the first two inches of travel, the Grand Cherokee’s brake pedal works quickly, and performance is on par with the rest of the class. For those seeking the very best in GC performance, check out the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, which we review separately.
Fuel Economy Jeep Cherokee
With a V-6 engine under the hood, the Grand Cherokee is fuel efficient by SUV standards. In our testing, the highway’s fuel economy score of 25 mpg was in line with the EPA’s rating. The V-8 might have more towing, but it’s noticeably more thirstier.
Interior, comfort and cargo
Entering the cabin of the Grand Cherokee gives a feeling of solidity or luxury, depending on the model. The instrument cluster surround has an infotainment touchscreen above redundant buttons and controls, and a 7.0-inch LCD screen in the instrument panel is surrounded by analog gauges. Jeep designers use soft-touch materials and leather where this is important — armrests, upper door panels and dashboard — but hard plastic stays elsewhere.
Behind the second row of seats, the Grand Cherokee holds 11 handbags. That number expands to 24 when we fold the rear seat, which splits in a 60/40 fashion; The process is also neat and tidy, requiring only one action to release the headrest and flip the seat back to its flat position.
Information, entertainment and contact for Jeep Cherokee
The premium pocket Uconnect infotainment system is one of our favorites for its ease of use and fast response times. Standard 5.0 inch dinki screen; We recommend going with the large 8.4 inch touch screen. Rear-seat entertainment and in-car Wi-Fi make the Grand Cherokee a movie theater on wheels. The six-speaker audio system comes standard,
With SiriusXM Satellite Radio option. An array of more advanced settings—including a six-speaker Boston Acoustics stereo, nine-speaker Alpine system, and a 19-speaker Harman/Kardon arrangement—are available in some trims.
Safety and driver assistance features
The Grand Cherokee didn’t perform well in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s small overlap front crash test, but it still offers a comprehensive list of driver assistance features. Unfortunately, the only active security feature that comes as standard is blind spot monitoring. Key safety features include:
Automatic emergency braking available
Lane departure warning available
Available adaptive cruise control
