BMW 2021 x4

BMW 2021 x4

The 2021 BMW is close to the more popular X3 model . Both are compact luxury SUVs , but the X4 distinguishes itself with a tilted rear roof that’s meant to make it look more luxurious and sporty. Unfortunately, this also hurts rear seat headroom and cargo space, but those sacrifices might be worth it if you want to have something a little different than the other crossovers you see in your area . A powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine is standard equipment, and a powerful turbocharged six-cylinder engine is optional, meaning the X4 is fun to drive thanks to those engines and solid handling. It is well appointed inside as well. Serious speed is on display in the high-performance X4 M model, which we review separately.

The M40i’s turbocharged six-cylinder engine is impressive, but the 30i’s turbocharged four-cylinder provides plenty of power. We’ll choose the base model for its better fuel economy numbers, and add a $2,800 Premium package to get features like heated seats, wireless smartphone charging, and proximity key entry.

But the base BMW X4 xDrive 30i is driven by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque . In our time on the track, this model sprinted from zero to 60 mph in a respectable 6.1 seconds. If you’re in the mood for something more high octane, the X4 M40i would be perfect. This model is equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that produces 382 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. BMW’s X4 M40i sprints from zero to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds, according to our track tests, and its engine note is as impressive as its acceleration. Launch control is standard. Both models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. Regardless of which X4 model you choose, you’ll have an SUV that matches tough handling with a ride quality that’s easy to live with.

fuel economy

But the EPA estimates that the 2021 X4 xDrive 30i achieves mileage of 23/29 mpg city/highway. This is an improvement in fuel economy offered by competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC300 Coupe (up to 22/28 mpg). But in our tests, we noted highway fuel economy of 33 mpg. With the X4 M40i, an EPA fuel economy of 21/27 mpg we were able to achieve real-world fuel economy of 28 mpg on the highway during our time with the SUV.

Interior, comfort and cargo BMW 2021

And that clean modernity is the name of the game inside the premium X4 cabin . The central stack looks a bit like a superhero’s shield, and is located beneath a neat floating touchscreen. Rear legroom is 35.5 inches in the X4 than you’d get with its more realistic relative, the X3 (36.4 inches). Also, the X4 forces you to make some compromises when it comes to cargo space. This model offers a cargo capacity of just 19 cubic feet with all seats in place and 51 cubic feet with the rear seats lowered. The X3 is much better in this area, providing 29 cubic feet of space for your belongings behind the second row and 63 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

Unfortunately, BMW will charge you a CarPlay fee after the trial period ends. An integrated navigation system is standard, and the infotainment system comes with a 10.3-inch display. The X4 offers gesture control as an option. This feature allows the driver to control the infotainment system using five simple hand gestures.

BMW 2021 safety and driver assistance features

Standard Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking

Standard Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keeping Assist

 Available adaptive cruise control

Warranty and maintenance coverage

However, the X4’s warranty is great when compared to the coverage offered by the less expensive mainstream models, but it’s just average when you look at it alongside the protection offered by its competitors in the luxury segment. Free scheduled maintenance is provided. Not all models in this segment offer this feature, so this is a feather in the X4 cover.
