Audi 2021 S8 2021

2021 Audi For speed enthusiasts with a penchant for comfort and luxury, there are a few flagship sedans that do just that in addition to the 2021 Audi S8. With a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine quietly toiling under the hood, the S8 can blast you and three others at high speeds. And when things turn , the big four-door Audi can gobble up the pavement at a dizzying pace. Based on the softer A8 luxury sedan, the S8 receives performance suspension, improved brakes and a more powerful powertrain, but its exterior design barely whispers “high performance” — making it a stealth bomber for the road. Inside, the S8 offers plenty of space and as many amenities as competitors like the BMW 7-series and Mercedes-Benz S-class, including massaging front and rear seats, the latest infotainment features, quality materials, and an excellent fit and finish.

The S8 comes under a complete redesign for 2020 so it sees few changes for 2021. New standard equipment includes 21-inch wheels, summer tires and heated armrests for front seat passengers. The Black Optic package receives a new 21-inch wheel design.

That six-figure starting price is pretty steep, but the S8 comes fairly well-equipped even by luxury car standards. We suggest the Cold Weather package for buyers in northern climes because it adds heated rear seats and adaptive glazing; The Executive Package is also attractive and comes with Audi’s cool laser headlights, automatic high beams, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. It also includes Audi’s OLED taillights, which give a quick light display when the car is unlocked with a fob.

The single S8 is a solid option: a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 563 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive is standard, and the eight-speed automatic transmission. Audi claims a top speed of 155 mph, and there are fuel-saving systems too,

Including disabling the cylinder and a mild hybrid setup with a small electric motor and battery. On our test track, the S8 sprinted to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. Active suspension can control each wheel individually to improve ride quality, and is tuned differently than the standard A8, promising an improved prowess in cornering thanks to reduced body slip. Audi also includes equipment such as a torque-guided rear differential and rear-wheel steering for increased agility; Powerful carbon-ceramic brakes are optional.

2021 Audi fuel economy

Although the S8 is technically a hybrid , buyers shouldn’t expect Toyota Prius-level fuel efficiency. The EPA estimates the best we can expect is 22 mpg on the highway, with the city rating dropping to just 13 mpg. ouch. We haven’t had a chance to test the S8 on the fuel economy route on the 200-mile highway, but when we do, we’ll update this story with the results.

Interior, comfort and cargo Audi 2021

Luxurious materials line nearly every square inch of the S8’s cabin, including diamond-cut leather upholstery, a faux-suede upper lining, and a stitched-leather cover for the dashboard. Front seats offer heating, cooling and massage as standard, while the rear cab provides plenty of room for passengers to stretch out. To pamper those in the back seat even more, consider the Comfort Seat package, which adds power-adjustable exterior seats with heating, ventilation and massage, additional headrests, heated armrests, and a remote control for the car’s infotainment system. An automatic zone climate control system is standard, as is a multi-colored ambient interior lighting system. The luggage compartment is oversized and identical to that of the A8, which proved robust in our tests by carrying six suitcases. For comparison, the S Series had 5 while the 7 Series had only three.

As with the standard A8, the S8’s interior is a rolling masterpiece. The multi-touch screen controls the climate, audio, navigation and countless connectivity functions. Audi’s 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster Virtual Cockpit is standard, as is the 10.1-inch upper infotainment system and 8.6-inch lower-display head-up display. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, onboard Wi-Fi hotspot and dashboard navigation are standard, and passengers can wirelessly charge their compatible smartphones using the S8 charging pad. Audiophiles will be pleased to find that Bang & Olufsen’s 17-speaker system is the standard; For $5900, Audi will replace the 23-speaker setup.

Safety and driver assistance features Audi 2021

Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have conducted crash tests on the S8. Audi offers many safety features as standard, but more attractive driver assistance technologies such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist are optional. Key safety features include:

Standard Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection

 Standard Lane Departure Warning

Adaptive cruise control is available with semi-autonomous driving mode

Warranty and maintenance coverage

Like its stablemates, the S8 is covered by a four-year/50,000-mile warranty policy, and Audi offers the first 10,000-mile scheduled service visit free of charge. Buyers may find more value in the three-year free service plans for their BMW 7 Series or Volvo S90.

The limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles

The powertrain warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles

Free maintenance is covered for 1 year or 10,000 miles
