Audi S4 2021

Audi S4 2021

Based on the already dynamically pleasing Audi A4, the 2020 S4 adds horsepower and a sporty-tuned suspension to the mix for performance demand . All-wheel drive is standard and the S4 is powered by a 349-horsepower V-6 operating a four-door — what’s the sound of 4.3 seconds to 60 mph? The S4 enjoys the moves too, and has never met a twisty road that it can’t beat. This sports car means business – serious business. Which is why it’s not our favorite, despite its ability. Its driving sounds a bit clinical ; They lack the emotional appeal that makes great cars exciting to drive, qualities that make competitors like the Alfa Romeo Giulia all the more appealing. However, when it comes to being a well-made, extremely fast and well-managed sports sedan, the S4 is one of the best cars on sale today.

The high-performance S4 receives a host of exterior styling updates for 2020 to match the similarly updated A4 sedan. A new grille, new wheel designs, updated exterior mirrors, rear spoiler, and updated front and rear bumpers give the 2020 model a new look. Inside, a new 10.1-inch infotainment screen replaces last year’s 8.3-inch screen.

Upgrading from the base Premium model doesn’t add more horsepower or the thrill of driving, but the $2,500 jump to the mid-range Premium Plus does add a few luxuries that segment buyers might feel necessary. Among them are a wireless smartphone charging pad, keyless entry with push-start, the Virtual Cockpit digital display, blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors.

Engine, transmission and performance Audi

All S4s are shipped with a 349-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged engine that’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. While the version we tested was faster than most competitors, engine response and exhaust sound – both very important characteristics of a sports sedan – were less sharp than expected. Despite the weak character of the engine and the lack of a manual transmission,

The V-6 delivered ample thrust on demand, seamlessly transitioning between relaxation and responsiveness. Also impressive was the automatic gearbox, which had reactions that seemed very perceptive, we found that the desire to shift for ourselves was almost eliminated; Well, approx. Looking at the numbers, the S4 ranks higher than most competitors in performance. However, the experience lacks the passion and sharp handling responses of the top competitors.

Its chassis is its greatest strength, with tightly controlled body movements and compliant damping that put it on par with the sporty and luxury sedan. S4 is very accurate and easy to control; Its precise steering, excellent cornering stability, and tight grip on the runway boosted our confidence in torpedoing the slopes—but it also roamed calmly around town. Although the brakes were very responsive, they were sensitive at city speeds. The choppy feedback also cut the fun on curved sections of the road where the brake pedal can feel too soft.

audi fuel economy

The EPA estimates the 2020 S4 will gain 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Those numbers are lower than the previous year when Audi was rated at 21 mpg in the city and 30 on the highway. While we didn’t test the 2020 S4 on our true highway fuel economy, the last thing we evaluated returned 28 mpg during this test.

Interior, comfort and cargo Audi

Audi is the benchmark for interior quality, and the S4 is further proof of that. Each cabin is decorated with premium materials and standard features such as diamond-encrusted sports seats with massage features. Besides the impeccable fit and finish, the interior design is exuberant and luxurious. A flat-bottom steering wheel, direct controls and a highly adjustable seat provide an exceptional driving position. The S4 had the quietest interior in our test,

Which also contributed to his calm demeanor – for better or worse. Despite having a 13-cubic-foot trunk – straitened to the smallest car in its class in a Mercedes-AMG C43 sedan – the S4 carries a surprising number of hand luggage. While its interior storage is average, the sedan can store a variety of loose items and personal belongings provided it isn’t too large. Compared to the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400, the Audi is a much better travel companion. We only wish the S4 had a more versatile center console.

Audi fits every S4 with a 10.1- inch central infotainment screen and extensive infotainment options. Combined with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, the MMI system we tested responded quickly to commands and has easy-to-use controls. While in the driver’s line of sight, certain areas of the screen require leaning forward to reach them. Fortunately, the rotating knob on the center console is easy to operate and makes the system easier to navigate.

Audi safety and driver assistance features

The S4 has not been tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The sports sedan includes many standard driver assistance features, but other options such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are only available on the more expensive Prestige model. Key safety features include:

Standard Automatic Emergency Braking with Forward Collision Warning

Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert is available

Adaptive cruise control is available with semi-autonomous driving mode

Warranty and maintenance coverage

Aside from its short scheduled free maintenance coverage, the S4 has a standard warranty that matches most competitors.

The limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles

The powertrain warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles

Free maintenance is covered for 1 year or 10,000 miles
