audi s7 2021 The 2021 Audi S7 caters directly to people who want a smoother driving experience than they can get from a regular A7. That extra spice comes courtesy of the 444-hp twin-turbo V-6, which gives the Audi hatchback a boost. Of course, those craving the louder version will cut straight to the RS7, which we review separately. However, the S7 fits nicely in the midst of the sibling’s spectrum , offering equal level and performance. Its cabin is the primary source for its sophistication, with state-of-the-art design and comfortable passenger accommodation. The four doors are also impressively functional thanks to ample storage space under the cleverly concealed rear hatch. While we’d like the racy, lighter V-8 to stay for the last generation, the 2021 S7 has brighter highlights in favor of fewer cylinders.

Audi is giving very minor changes to the 2021 S7. It now comes standard with 21-inch wheels wrapped in summer tires, Virtual Cockpit Plus that provides two additional sights, and carbon-fabric interior trim. Those who opt for the Executive Package will now benefit from the addition of adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.

The best-in-class Prestige has the most bells and whistles, but also costs a pretty penny. While some shoppers don’t care about the higher price tag, we opt for the Premium Plus tier. It comes standard with adaptive air suspension, a Bang & Olufsen powerful audio system, four-zone climate control, front sport seats with 12-way power adjustment, heated cushions, headlights with Matrix design accents, automatic high beams, leather upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof. We’ll opt for the Executive Package for its extra luxuries that include customizable interior ambient lighting, more leather surfaces, heated rear seats, and upgraded LED headlights with laser lighting. We also choose the S Sport package for its performance-enhancing hardware. These include more audible exhaust systems, rear-wheel steering, and a torque-guided rear differential.

Engine, Transmission and Performance Audi S7 2021

The last-generation 450-horsepower twin-turbo V-8 is gone. Audi is now dropping a twin-turbo V-6 under the hood of the S7, sacrificing six horsepower in the process. What it lost in power, however, more than made up for in torque – 443 lb-ft to be exact, 37 more than before. That torque is channeled through an eight-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels. Audi retired the old seven-speed dual-clutch in this application, because it couldn’t handle the increased torque. (You can find it in A7,

though.) A 48-volt engine alternator smooths the auto shutdown process while a supercharger excites throttle response. Unfortunately, the electrical components add to the overall weight. Tapping the scales at 4,640 pounds, the new S7 is 132 pounds heavier than its predecessor. Shifts on an eight-speed automatic transmission aren’t as quick as the seven-speed dual-clutch it’s replacing,

This is clear. The S7 runs a 4.1-second 60-mph dash and a quarter-mile dash in 12.5, 0.3 and 0.2 seconds slower than the old car, respectively. And while it packs a few pounds, the driving dynamics that have always been one of the S7s’ selling points remain. The Aperture Luxe is keen on crowding and feels a lot smaller than it is. Up front, massive front rotors mounted by six-piston calipers stop the S7 from 70 mph in 151 feet.

fuel economy audi s7 2021

With all-new 48-volt powertrains and engine downsizing, the EPA suggests the 2021 S7 should achieve 22 mpg in combined driving, four better than the previous generation. Government figures top what the BMW M850i Gran Coupe is expected to earn, but the Mercedes-AMG CLS53 has the S7 edge in town, boasting about 23 mpg. During our 200-mile highway fuel economy test, the Audi achieved 28 mpg, matching its EPA highway rating. In the same test, BMW also got 28 mpg and returned the Mers 30 mpg.

Interior, comfort and cargo audi s7 2021

Inside, the S7 has everything you’d expect from a luxury sedan : natural wood trim, quilted leather seats with contrast stitching, heated front seats and steering wheel, paddle shifters, four-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof and more. Plus, Audi offers luxury touches like dual-panel acoustic glass and soft-touch doors, and who doesn’t love it? The S7’s fastback shape is a boon for cargo volume. Under the hatch, you have 25 cubic feet of space to play with. That’s twice as much as the CLS53 and 11 cu more than the S6 sedan can boast. But cubic footage can be misleading. We’ll have to wait until we have the S7 on hand to see how practical this space really is.

infotainment and connectivity audi s7 2021

A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is located in front of the driver. In the center console, Audi splits infotainment functions between two touch-feedback screens, a 10.1-inch screen at the top and an 8.6-inch lower screen. The screens are presented with clear graphics and with little familiarity they are easy to operate. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces come standard, as do SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth audio, and a wireless charging pad. Audi offers a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system in either trim, or you can upgrade to a 19-speaker unit from B&O on Prestige models.

Safety and driver assistance features audi s7 2021

The 2021 S7 has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Audi offers a range of standard and optional driver assistance technologies. Key safety features include:

Standard Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking

 Standard Lane Departure Warning

 Available adaptive cruise control

When it comes to warranty coverage, Audi matches what other German luxury brands offer. And the four-year roadside assistance program isn’t new either. However, it does provide some additional benefits by covering the first service visit. This is something.
