Chevrolet Equinox 2021
Chevrolet Equinox 2021
Chevrolet Equinox With its spacious cabin, decent fuel economy, and spirited driving behavior , the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox is a handsome crossover suitable for family transportation duties, but that can be said of Nox competitors as well. Buyers will choose either a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or a 2.0-liter turbo with more power. Front-wheel drive is standard but both engines can be paired with all-wheel drive. The cabin layout matches well with the exterior, but while Chevy offers plenty of subtle infotainment detailing as standard, the more affordable Equinox models are somewhat lacking in amenities. Driving enthusiasts may prefer to look at the Honda CR-V, Volkswagen Tiguan or Mazda CX-5.
The 2021 Equinox release starts from 2020 without any major changes. An improved version of Chevrolet’s compact SUV will debut in the 2022 model year after a one-year delay due to the coronavirus pandemic that shut down auto manufacturing and hampered production of the updated model.
We’re suggesting the mid-range LT model, which adds several worthwhile features over the less expensive LS. Among them are the eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, SiriusXM satellite radio, tinted rear windows, body-color exterior mirror housings, and additional chrome trim. In addition, it is the cheapest model to choose with a more powerful 2.0-liter turbo engine, which we prefer over the standard sloth-like engine.

Engine, Transmission and Performance Chevrolet Equinox
The base four cylinder won’t be able to win any fans with its slow-paced performance , due to its poor power and loss of breath. This turbocharged 1.5-liter engine produces 170 horsepower, and when paired with the optional (and heavier) all-wheel drive system (front-wheel drive is standard), it takes a heavy foot to propel the Equinox to highway speeds. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is available, better suited to the Equinox’s weight. The standard six-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly, but for fuel economy the gearbox doesn’t want to shift gear when extra power is needed. Acceptable and easy to drive, the Equinox handles efficiently and its steering is precise and direct. The ride is a little rough, especially with the optional 19-inch wheels (17 or 18 come standard, depending on the model), where the rough stretches of road bring some discomfort into the cabin.

fuel economy
Chevrolet Equinox
In the race for the best fuel economy, smaller engines have become prevalent. Chevy’s 1.5-liter turbo isn’t fast, but it does offer attractive EPA fuel economy ratings. However, the Honda CR-V outperforms the Equinox in both acceleration and fuel efficiency. In the real world, EPA estimates aren’t always easy to achieve, and the Equinox all-wheel drive device proved thirstier than expected. It delivered only 28 of its 30 mpg rating in the 200 mpg highway fuel economy test while the CR-V managed 32 mpg. Surprisingly, the optional 2.0-liter Equinox turbocharged engine scored 30 mpg in our testing, beating the 28 mpg rating.

Interior, comfort and cargo Chevrolet Equinox
Made of durable materials and beautifully designed , the cabin of the Equinox should command wide appeal. The spacious interior should carry front and back seat passengers with reasonable comfort. The cabin features plenty of cup holders, but most of the interior’s luxuries are for higher levels; The basic Equinox L is a price leader with very few features. Some competitors offer more space behind the rear seats, but we were still able to fit eight of our hand luggage there. Aside from the spacious center console storage box, the Equinox’s cabin storage is only average.

7.0-inch (or optional 8.0-inch) touchscreen displays Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment interface on top of the Equinox dashboard; The system continues to impress with its ease of use and quick response. Compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard, as are Bluetooth phone, audio streaming, USB connectivity, and an auxiliary input jack. Standard onboard Wi-Fi makes the Equinox one of the best connected crossovers.
Safety and driver assistance features
The Equinox received five-star honors from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, but missed the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Best Safety Pick award due to headlights that scored only marginal points in that agency’s test. For shoppers who put driver assistance features at the top of their list, know that the Equinox offers automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, and lane-keeping assist as standard. Key safety features include:
Standard Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
Standard Lane Keeping Assist with Lane Departure Warning
Available adaptive cruise control
Warranty and maintenance coverage
Chevrolet’s basic warranty package is just as basic – as basic – as its competitors. Kia Sportage and partner Hyundai Tucson offer longer protection plans. Chevy also offers a free dealer servicing visit during the first year of ownership, which is a nice perk.
The limited warranty covers three years or 36000 miles
Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
Free maintenance is covered for the first visit
