If you take the mid-size Audi Q8 SUV and hit it with deflation rays , it turns out to be the 2021 Q3. From its large trapezoidal grille to the strongly shaded rear hatch, the small Audi SUV makes its best impression on the brand’s larger crossovers. Inside, buyers will find a tech-heavy interior, which is to be expected of modern Audis, but offers youthful flair in the form of optional brightly colored suede trim and multicolored ambient interior lighting. The standard fourwheel drive , turbocharged, all-wheel drive offers decent all-wheel drive and an all-weather warranty, but those looking for top speed may be disappointed. However, its slender chassis gives it the moves to challenge driver favorites such as the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-class.

Audi has streamlined its 2021 Q3 lineup by dropping the Prestige trim level in the first-class and splitting its features into technology or convenience packages available on the remaining Premium and Premium Plus trims. The entry-level Premium model comes standard with power-adjustable front seats, lane departure warning, and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The Convenience Package now includes an auto-dimming rearview mirror with integrated compass, power-folding and heated exterior mirrors and LED interior lighting. The Premium Plus model gains adaptive cruise control as standard and can be equipped with a new technology package that includes a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster,

and a larger 10.1-inch infotainment screen, a Bang & Olufsen stereo system, and integrated navigation. All Q3s now come standard with the previously optional S line exterior package, which includes 19-inch wheels and S line-branded sill trims. A Black Optic exterior package (unique 19-inch wheels and black outer rims) is now available, as is the Parking Assistance Package, which includes a 360-degree external camera system and self-parking. A new 184-horsepower four-cylinder engine that Audi refers to as the “40” joins the engine lineup as the base engine; The previous standard version with 228 horsepower earns the nickname “45”.

Although it is now the most expensive model, the Premium Plus version is still the best buy in the Q3 lineup. Its relatively affordable price tag equips it with many desirable features, including a wireless charging pad, blind spot monitoring, passive entry with push-button start, LED headlights, and adaptive cruise control. We also suggest the technology package mentioned above, which unlocks the coolest technical features that Audi has to offer. We also choose the more powerful Model 45.

Engine, Transmission and Performance Audi Q3 2021

The Q3 is powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing either 184 or 228 hp. Either way, it comes standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. In our time behind the wheel of a Q3 with the two most powerful engines, we noticed the engine was delivering plenty of power, but our test car wasn’t as fast as some competitors, and we noticed a lag between our right-footed action and the engine’s response (read: turbo deceleration). However ,

The transmission shifted smoothly during normal operation and provided sporty feedback when shifting into S mode. Fortunately, its suspension suppressed all but the harshest road imperfections. Direct steering with a light-touch feel gives the Q3 a nimble feel. The small SUV also moves with the same grace as its larger siblings when descending on a twisty section of road.

fuel economy audi q3 2021

The EPA estimates that the 2021 Q3 will gain up to 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. These numbers are similar to competitors such as the X1 and Volvo XC40. The Q3 we ran on our 75-mph fuel-economy highway, which is part of our comprehensive test regime, achieved 31 mpg—matching the realistic score for the X1 we tested.

Interior, comfort and cargo audi q3 2021

The cabin of the Q3 addresses all of our complaints about the outgoing model, with a much-improved driving position, user-friendly design of the controls, and more refined materials. Notable standard features include a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats with eight-way power adjustment and driver’s lumbar support. More luxurious options include ambient interior lighting, a fully digital instrument cluster, and contrast microsuede on the dashboard and doors.

The cabin is also more spacious than the outgoing model, but its rear seat still lacks enough legroom to keep adults comfortable in the long haul. We were able to fit six hand luggage in the cargo area and another 12 bags with the rear seats folded. Both are less than what we would fit in the X1 but on par with the Jaguar E-Pace.

Information, entertainment and communication

Audi equips most Q3 models with an 8.8-inch MMI touchscreen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A larger 10.1-inch touch screen with the same content is also available. We found the interface to be attractive and easy to operate mostly due to its large icons and haptic feedback. However, its low position on the dashboard can be a distraction. Top options include SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless charging, and a 15-speaker, 680-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Safety and driver assistance features

The 2021 Q3 received a five-star crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the latest version evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) received a Top Safety Pick+ award. The luxury compact crossover also offers a wide range of driver assistance technologies, such as automatic high-beam headlights and automatic emergency braking. Key safety features include:

Standard Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection

 Standard Lane Departure Warning

 Available adaptive cruise control

Warranty and maintenance coverage

Audi offers a competitive limited warranty for the powertrain in the third quarter of 2020. However, its free maintenance is less than what BMW and Jaguar offer.

The limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
